Wordless Wednesday - Halloween Is Here!!

Happy Halloween Everyone, ooooo oooo oooo [scary ghost sounds]!!!

This is my very first Halloween so I'm super excited to see all the kiddie winks in their costumes and help hand out candy (ok, try to eat...no, not chocolate)!! But just as a reminder, if you pups and kitties are a bit scared (like my brothers), you might want hang out in another room! :-)

Ok, I'm in my costume with a pumpkin and so ready...let the Trick or Treating begin!!! :-D

More Wordy Wednesday:

I'm sending all kinds of licks and love to all those affected by that terrible Sandy and her anger management issues! Even though most of the storm has passed, please remain safe, warm, and dry with your loved ones!!

Just as an FYI, Domeek is having some surgery today (Halloween), so I need to become nurse Freckles, which means that (depending on how much a baby she is) I might not have the time to post for a couple of days. ;-) But we'll be back real quickly!!!

Sandy, Sandy, Go Away!!

I don't like rain...at all, so thankfully we aren't any where near the hurricane!! Sadly though, there are over 60 million people (and pets) across the Eastern coast that might be affected by Sandy's nasty temper! Boo!!

Freckles the Dog Evacuation
Via Fidose of Reality

I know it's too late for most of the coast, but I wanted to pass along a load of information for all of you (especially your Moms and Dads) that might be affected now or possibly in the future with another storm!

First of all, Sandy specific information:

  • Thanks to George The Duck, I've found out that there is a Sandy Roll Call (#SandyRollCall) spreadsheet available for all animals who is affected by the hurricane, so you can check in and be checked on! Along with a Sandy Anipal Information Facebook page!
  • As he has amazing information, please start with George The Duck for all Sandy Hurricane information...then check out other places!
  • According to the Mayor's Alliance For NYC Animals: Under New York City Law, (1) During times of evacuation, a cab driver may not turn down a fare who is bringing a pet along. (2) An evacuation center must accept any pet as long as he/she is accompanied by a human and either leashed or in a carrier.
  • A Sandy Lost and Found Pet's page has already been established on Facebook, to help reunite pet parents and their animals!
  • NYC's hurricane evacuation shelters have to accept pets as long as they are accompanied by a human and have a leash/carrier!! New York area animal care and control facility information can be found here!

Freckles the Dog Disaster Preparedness

No matter where you live, you should always have a disaster preparedness plan in place! Since I live in California, the land of crazy earthquakes, Domeek, my brothers, and I all have an earthquake plan in place! We know what to do, where to go, and what to take with us! Even if you don't live anywhere near earthquakes or hurricanes, it's definitely smart to have a plan in place; have you heard of tornadoes, volcanoes, tsunamis, mud slides, blizzards...omd, Mother Earth certainly has a lot of issues to deal with!

I suggest taking a look at the Humane Society of the United State, the ASPCA, PetFinder, and, of course, FEMA's own disaster preparedness plans for lots of incredibly helpful information!

Freckles the Dog First Aid

I also suggest putting together a pet (and human) first aid kit, just in case something happens in the hustle and bustle of an evacuation or shut-in!

PetWave and the American Red Cross both have great compilations of everything that you might need, if you choose to build your own kit! These items include: a crate/carrier, thermometer, Vaseline, hydrogen peroxide, karo syrup, medical bandages/gauze, small flash light, hot/cold pack, emergency heat blanket, tweezers, saline solution, and a card with your vet's phone number, address, and directions. These are just the basics, so you might want to add or take away certain items for your pet specifically (especially their food, some toys, and an item from your wardrobe)!

If you don't want to make your own kit 21st Century, AKC, and QuakeKare all have great, per-packaged kits available to purchase! I still suggest adding your own personal items as well!

It also might be helpful if you took a Pet CPR class, that way you could be able to assist not only your own pets but also others if needed?!

Freckles the Dog Disaster

It's very important to plan ahead of time and know exactly where you can take your pet in the event of an emergency or evacuation! Do you have a relative or friend that lives near, but out of the evacuation zone? How about a hotel or motel that you can count on? The ASPCA has a list of animal-friendly accommodations that you can take a look at, if you don't have one or two available! What about a vet or a shelter that has agreed to take animals in during disaster times? These are all very important things to know before a disaster hits!

Freckles the Dog

I know that we don't want to think about what might happen in the event of an emergency, but in order to be a good pet parent or doggie brother/sister these are the things that we need to plan on! Everyone will be happier and safer if there is a plan to speed the process up, ensure our friends' well-beings, and live a long life!

Ok, Professor Goose's lecture is over for today!! ;-D

Sending lots of paw-sitive thoughts out to all my doggie and kittie friends who are in the middle of Sandy's mess!! Stay safe everyone!

A Little Treat...A Little Toy...and A Little Swap-a-roo

As I've mentioned in earlier posts, I happily signed up for Nola and Cole's Toy and Treat Swap at the beginning of the month!

I was a little nervous as I've never been a part of one of these before, but I was excited never the less! :-D

My partner, turned out to be EB (short for Eve Belle) from At The Joneses (a beautiful blog that's run by her Mom, Mrs. Jones)! She is a gorgeous, three year old Lhasa Apso...who's just like me and absolutely adores toys!!!

After sharing a few short details (like I'm a destructo puppy who adores toys ;-P) we set out and had fun buying different toys and treats for each other...then a couple weeks later, the packages arrived!!

Freckles the Dog

Eeek, how exciting! But the day it came, I was exceedingly lazy and just couldn't push myself to get up and help...

Whoa, look at all these awesome things!!

Freckles The Dog

Ok, I'll pull a couple things out!

First of all, I got this beautiful card from EB that I swear smelt just like her!

Freckles the Dog

Then there was Loliphant, her favorite toy (that I've now become inseparable from)!!!

Freckles the Dog

Then there were the delicious treats, including: Beggin Strips (oh my dog, how could I have never tasted these delicious things before?) and Mini Dingos (awesome, bury worthy bones)!

I want to send a humongous "Thank You" to EB and her Mom for getting me these delicious and awesome treats and for being involved in this fun swap!! :-D

Don't worry about Loliphant, EB, as we have become fast friends (I've also customized him, by de-stuffing the only parts that were stuffed!)!!

And, of course, Thank you to Nola and Cole for being such hospitable hosts of this awesome Swap!! You can see everyone who participated in the linky list on Nola's blog!

Next up, Finn and Jazzi's Christmas Card Exchange, if you are interested in joining in on all the Holiday fun, sign-ups end November 7th...so make sure you email the appropriate helper soon! :-D

Have a great Monday everyone!!

It's Pic-a-nic Time!

:-D I'm gonna steal Yogi Bear's line..."Boo Boo, I think it's pic-a-nic time!!"

Freckles the Dog Yogi Bear

Since today was my very first picnic, I can now say that I totally respect that bear and his obsession with all things picnic! It was definitely delicious!!

Freckles the Dog

Domeek made hot dogs for both me and Pippi! Yeah!! And we (hm, we did not include those with four legs...pft!) had cheese, sandwiches, chips, and apples!

Freckles the Dog

After the food was done, Pippi and I got to each eat a cupcake shaped cookie and a peanut butter pupcake!! Yummy!!

Freckles the Dog

Weren't they pretty? The only thing was, man-oh-man were they hard! We didn't realize that they were going to be rock solid, so the humans had to cut them up for both of us, as we're a bit prissy when it comes to our teeth! ;-)

Unfortunately that darn party hat came out again, urg...why?!

Freckles the Dog

But I found out it was PRESENT time!!

Freckles the Dog

Huh, did you say present??

Freckles the Dog

There's something in here...

Freckles the Dog

Whoa, it's a tough dragon!!!

Freckles the Dog

OMD, something else!!

Freckles the Dog

Woohoo It's a ball!! And now it's destructo puppy time!!

Freckles the Dog

Muahaha I showed that bag who was boss!!

Freckles the Dog

Thank you Pippi for all of my fun gifts!

After the picnic and presents, it was definitely time to run off our steam and head to my favorite doggie park!! Unfortunately we went way earlier than I normally go, so I didn't see any of my friends, but there were a bunch of playful new pups! So I had a blast!!

Pippi is a huge squirrel fan!! She's totally obsessive compulsive about them! ;-)

Freckles the Dog

All in all, I had a wonderful time at the picnic and the park!! :-D

I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend too!! See you tomorrow for Nola's Toy and Treat Swap show offs!

Very Short Post Tonight...(#BTC4A)

Hey there everyone!!

Thank you all so very much for all the Birthday love!! I had an excellent day and can't wait for tomorrow's picnic!!

So, today is only going to be a very short post, as I have a couple of links that I want to pass along to you.

  • To all you bloggers out there: World Vets is teaming up with BlogPaws Be The Change For Pets to create, the first of its kind, a Blogger Disaster Response Network! In the wake of Japan's disaster and aftermath, World Vets decided it was time to put together a group of blogger volunteers who would receive all the information available and needed in order to spread the word and assist anyone! I've already signed up for the group and I highly recommend all of you to do the same!
  • I know that I am totally preaching to the choir, but in case you or someone you know is in the path of that nasty Sandy...please urge them to create and follow through on a disaster plan that involves your pets! Please do not leave them behind!!
  • As I've already mentioned, October is Pit Bull Awareness Month, and today was (sorry for the late recap) National Pit Bull Awareness Day!! Started in 2007, this day focuses on pit bull rescue, education, and the end of BSL!
  • As most of you know, BarkWorld is going on right now (how exciting)! Petco is teaming up with them to donate $1.00 to various shelters and rescues (they're trying for $5000) for each blog post or tweet that is sent containing the hash tag #BTC4A during this weekend!!! All you need to do is spread their message, use that hash tag, and send your followers to this website
Make sure to check out the sites above!!

Thanks so much guys and have a great evening/morning!! :-D

Last night I went to bed a little baby...

Cause I'm officially off mandatory R&R tomorrow I'm going to celebrate with all my puppy playschool friends and then on Sunday, I'm hanging out at the park with my family and cousin Pippi, having a picnic (as long as it isn't raining), and then going to the puppy park and seeing all my long, lost (for two weeks) friends!!! This weekend is going to totally rock!!!

Hope you all have an awesome weekend too!!
