Pet First Aid Twitter Party

Happy Wednesday Everyone!! :-D

I'm opting out of the regularly scheduled Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop today due to the unforeseen yet amazing information that I received last night on my very first Twitter party! :-) I saw a couple of you tweeting, but just in case you missed any and all of the crazy tips let me catch you up!

Freckles the Dog

First up, let me tell you, those Twitter parties sure are confusing to begin with! Holy cannoli, I haven't concentrated that hard in a really long time! ;-)

We spent quite a bit of the event discussing tips and suggestions to do with evacuations and natural disasters. Since I live in California, the possibility of earthquakes is always on my mind (especially after being in the 1989 quake...haha, not me, but Domeek), but we received a ton of information on tornadoes, hurricanes, snow storms, and earthquakes!

Freckles the Dog

Here are a few general key points that the attendees brought up:

  • Familiarize a friend/neighbor/relative with your pets in case of a sudden absence or inability to return home during a disaster.
  • Designate a room or closet as a "safe room" and put all of your evacuation/pet first aid/supplies there!
  • Set aside an old duffel bag or suitcase and place all supplies inside, for quick and safe evacuation (I have three: 1 small for the car, 1 small for the house, and a large evacuation kit...anally retentive much? Haha).
  • If you evacuate, do so early. Natural disasters are frightening, so this will appease your pets and minimize stress.
  • Make a list of all pet-friendly shelters and hotels, that are outside of the disaster zone, and their requirements.
  • If you don't have a kennel available in a pinch, zip tie together two laundry baskets for makeshift kennel.
  • Keep all pets in sight and be calm, animals read their humans' energies!
  • Have an evacuation plan prepared ahead of time and Practice, Practice, Practice!

I've always been petrified of tornadoes, so I was incredibly interested to hear these tips!
  • Have a kennel at the ready; many animals have been found (after a tornado) safely inside their kennel!
  • If caught unaware, place kennels underneath heavy furniture and away from windows.
  • Make sure that you and your pet practice listening and responding to a tornado warning, especially since the warning signals can be very frightening to hear.
  • Consider training your dog or cat to go to a specific "safe" zone when they hear a tornado warning siren.

Freckles the Dog

Of course, there were a lot of discussions regarding general pet first aid as well! Since Dr. Emmo was the sponsor of the party, I learned quite a bit about their first aid products that sound amazing!
  • I always forget, but a great reminder about keeping hydrogen peroxide on hand and in your first aid kit: 1 tablespoon per 25 pounds of pet, repeated every 10 minutes, in case they ingest something bad!
  • Put toxic chemicals and household products away from pets, if you live in a high wind or earthquake area, consider using childproof locks on cabinets as well (we do!).
  • If you are traveling with your pets, remember to keep up-to-date photos on hand (either hard copy or on your cell phone) in case of an escape!
  • Never pull a string out of the mouth (or the tush) of a pet, it can cause internal injuries...this goes for Christmas tinsel as well!
  • To easy your pet's anxiety, make sure to place a personal item with your scent on it, inside of their crate/carrier.

Overall, this was an incredibly interesting and time worthy event, so I'm glad that Domeek was able to attend! If you're interested in hearing more, just search #Pet1stAid in Twitter and read all about it! :-D

Dr. Emmo is giving away their First Aid Travel Packs to everyone interested, including: 2 oz travel containers of both wound care wash and wound care gel, all you have to do is pay $3 in shipping charges. They are also offering 30% off all orders between now and September 30th, with the coupon code: pet1staid at checkout. :-D It's never too early to get an evacuation or emergency kit together...this might be a great start!

I was so impressed with the doxies from You Did What With Your Weiner and their car emergency kit...you might want to check their list out too! :-D

So, do you have any tips or suggestions to add and do you have an emergency plan prepared?!

Have a great day everyone!! :-)

PS. Just in case you forgot what I looked like! ;-)

Freckles the Dog

Poor Benny has been diagnosed with that no good, very bad C-Word, which is pretty hefty to financially treat...so, if you have a few extra buckaroos and want to help a frenchie out...check out their Chip-In and see what you can do!

But today is his day, so make sure that you  drop on by and give a shout out to that feisty frenchie!!

Bland, But Noms!

Happy Wednesday Everyone!!

Just a short post, we've got a whole of lot of stuff going on right now at home...so we're (aka I'm) unfortunately having to neglect my online buds!

My tummy is finally starting to feel almost 100% again, but I've been subjected to the "Bland Food" diet for the past week...take a look though, I'm not really complaining!! ;-)

Freckles the Dog

Freckles the Dog

I'm scoring lots of boiled chicken, sweet potatoes/pumpkin, rice, and I even get a little cottage cheese! Where has this diet been all my life?! ;-)

We're now seriously debating going "homemade" with my diet, especially since as a major pain the tush - picky eater, I'm devouring the entire bowl...so we're in the research mode right now, while I continue with my bland adventure!

This afternoon, Domeek came home to find a package for little old me on the doorstep too!!!

It was my fantastic Kong prize from my buds Reilly and Denny over at Cowspotdog!! WooHoo!!

Freckles the Dog

Check out the swag!! :-D I kept the Sweet Potato treats and gave my cousin, Pippi, the meaty treats...cause who doesn't love more noms?!

Freckles the Dog

Thank you Reilly and Denny for, what will be, absolutely delicious nummies!

Just don't mind the expression, I'm just mad that Domeek won't let me have any treats right now! :-P Boo Domeek!

Hope that you all are doing awesomely!! We'll be around at the end of the week too...stay good until then!

Aw, I'm A Lucky Pup!

Happy Tuesday Everyone!! Hope that you are all having a pawesome week!

So, last Thursday my buddies, Wally and Sammy, decided to bestow upon me a super, duper awesome award...The Sunshine Award!!! :-D [Blushing]

Freckles the Dog

What I was so happy about was that it is an award for “bloggers who positively pawsitively and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere“. Dawwwww... :-S There's nothing better in my little pup life than inspiring others to have fun, be their own dog, and help others when they can...so now I'm totally chuffed!

Now for the rules of the award [cough]:

1. Thank the blogger who gave this award to you & link his / her -

Already said it before, but thank you so, so much Wally and Sammy!! Oh and for those of you who don't know the brothers (what rock have you been living under?!)...they are a crazy, fantastic duo from South Africa who never look down from a challenge (can you say Occupy Couch 2013?), but have hearts of gold!! Go check them out, like now!! ;-)

2. Pass on the award to 10 fabulous bloggers, link their blogs & let them know you awarded them -

I think I'm going to steal the idea from Wally & Sammy and pass this award onto just a handful of pups, cause the rest of you already know that you totally rock!! ;-)

     * Reilly and Denny from Cowspotdog - These boys inspire me all the time to get outside, enjoy the sunshine, and smell on! Reilly also constantly inspires me to take my brothers for who they are, however annoying as they sometimes are! ;-)

     * Noodles from A Bowl of Noodles - Noodles is one amazingly philosophical pup, she constantly inspires me to think outside of the box (or crate)!! Her One Hundred Days is also an incredibly pawesitive addition!!!

     * Max from All About Max - Max has an incredibly inspiring relationship and connection with his Mom...together they can concur the World, starting with Houston! :-) Their photos and travels make me constantly want to get up and get going!

     * Blueberry from Spotty, Spotty, Polkadotty - Blueberry is one cool chick who has an incredibly large heart, together her Mom and her have assisted rescues and foster pups galore! :-D These two have left a paw print or two on lots of hearts!

Well, there you go...thanks to everyone for constantly inspiring me and Domeek!! You all seriously rock!! :-D

Take care everyone!

A New Book and Toy

:-D It's the Weekend guys!!!

If you all remember, a couple of weeks ago, the wonderful Prudence from A Coonhound's Tales hosted a fun little giveaway on her blog! Her Mom went to a book signing for Simon Tofield, the author of Simon's Cat...the coolest and funniest comics, ever!

Well, they bought an extra copy of Simon's book and guess who won it??????

Yop, that's right - Little Old Moi!! :-D

Freckles the Dog

Well, two days ago, their package arrived!!! :-D

Freckles the Dog

I couldn't wait to open it!

Freckles the Dog

Check it out!! :-D

Freckles the Dog

I begged Domeek to read it to me immediately! :-) Look at the awesome signature and cartoon Mr. Simon drew!

Sooooo, I have to send a gigantic "Thank You" out to Prudence and her Mom! The book is absolutely fabulous and hilarious!

After having a wonderful time at the puppy park this afternoon (I totally took down three big pups) Domeek treated me to a new toy...I even got to pick it out! :-D

Freckles the Dog

Supposedly he's indestructible, but I already managed to tear a hole in him, muahahaha!

Freckles the Dog

Ok, that's it for today everyone! Have a fantastic Saturday! :-D

FitDog Friday...The First Of Its Kind!

Happy Friday Everyone!!

I hope that you all have had a wonderful week! So, today is the very first FitDog Friday Blog hop (woohoo)! "What's that" you might ask?!

Freckles the Dog

My friends over at Peggy's Pet Place and SlimDoggy have come together to bring awareness to the health and happiness of all my canine friends! Did you realize that more than 52% of dogs are overweight or obese, according to the 2012 National Pet Obesity Survey?! That's an insane number, isn't it?! Well, just like humans, that number can definitely change...and who knows, perhaps a simple blog hop might tip the scale (to the left, not right...hehehe)!! ;-)

Here are a few fun facts:

  • Wild dogs spend 80% of their day hunting and scavenging!
  • Domestic dogs have been "working" alongside humans for thousands of years!
  • Stray dogs and cats can travel between 20 and 30 miles, in a single day!
  • Destruction, hyperactivity, and unloved behaviors can be attributed to boredom and lack of exercise!

Freckles the Dog
Via AfricaFreak

Wowee, honestly, I can't believe that our cousins are so physically active and, I'm guessing, fit! :-D BUT, if you are like me and prefer to spend most of your day curled up on the couch then running on a treadmill, have no fear! To be a perfectly fit and happy pup, you don't need to spend practically all day exercising...depending on your size and breed, most dogs need between 30 minutes and 2 hours worth of physical activity each day! Phew! Just remember, that's every day...not, when it's convenient or when there isn't anything good on TV or when the weather is nice! ;-)

So, what kind of exercise should you be doing? Well, it really depends on who you are, as a pup! :-D Hehe, could I answer a little more ambiguously?!

Here are a few suggestions and activities that I prefer to do:

Hike

Freckles the Dog

Walk - Urban or Country

Freckles the Dog

Visit the Dog Park

Freckles the Dog

Play Ball - Fetch

Take Obedience, aka Mentally Exhausting Classes

Freckles the Dog

Swim

Freckles the Dog

Compete/Participate in Dog Sports & Agility

Freckles the Dog

I love to be out and about and exercise, so these are just a few of the types of activities that I participate in! What about you guys? ;-)

I'm a big fan of doing what you enjoy...so, if that means that you love to play hide & go seek, well then, go for it! Are you a nose dog? Make a game out of finding different objects or treats (like my buddies Reilly and Denny) in boxes! How about a great stick game, like my buddy Goose?!  Or maybe you love running with your Mom and Dad...take a look at Murphy and Stanley

If you love what you are doing, then it won't feel like a chore or like exercise! ;-D

Thanks for hopping along the FitDog Friday trail guys...and if you want to participate (nutrition, exercise, anything health related), make sure that you check out Peggy and SlimDoggy!!

Have a great day everyone and make sure that you get a little fresh air and exercise!!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you wonderful pups and kittens out there! Enjoy yourselves at the Party...but don't do anything I wouldn't!! ;-) Hehehe!

Valentine Friend

A Valentine friend is someone you choose
To share your life with you,
Someone who is always there,
Whether you’re happy or blue.

With a Valentine friend, you can be yourself
You don’t need to pretend;
When you’re careful to choose a compatible match,
You create a perfect blend.

With you for my special Valentine friend,
My life is full and bright;
You bring contentment, joy and peace;
You’re my Valentine delight!

Award Central

Happy Saturday Everyone!!

I've been super lucky recently and noticed that I have the bestest bloggie friends that a pup could ever want!! :-D Yeah, I'm talking about you!!!

Yesterday, two pawesome pals nominated me for awards!

First up, the ever gorgeous and fantastically-dominating Nola granted me the REALITY blog award.

The Rules are as follows:
  1. Visit and thank the blogger who nominated you.
  2. Acknowledge that blogger on your blog and link back to them.
  3. Answer the 5 simple questions. (see below)
  4. Nominate up to 20 blogs for the award and notify each of them. (see below)
  5. Display the award on your blog somewhere.

The Questions:
  • If you could change one thing, what would it be?
    • The Big Picture: That everyone would value their pups, kittens, hamsters, bunnies...as much as our fantastic Mom's and Dad's here in Blogville do!
    • More Personal: That I could go everywhere with my Domeek, no questions asked...the stores, food places, her work all the time, everywhere!! :-)
  • If you could repeat an age, what would it be?
    • Well, I'm only one year old...so I don't have a lot to go by, buuuuut, I do miss my younger months, when there wasn't as much pressure to behave and do well in class...those were the days my friends! ;-)
  • What is one thing that really scares you?
    • Domeek not coming home!! :-(
  • What is one dream you have not completed, and do you think you'll be able to complete it?
    • There's tons of things that I haven't completed...again, I say, I'm only 1! Let's see, I want to travel all over the place (yes, I'll complete that) and I want to take more classes like nosework (yes, I'll complete that one too)!
  • If you could be someone else for one day, who would it be?
    • Pft...I'm ecstatic being Freckles, why should I be someone else?! You humans are weird...I'm pretty sure that most saved pups are happy being who and where we are! :-D

The Nominees (Go say "Hi" if you haven't already):

Thanks again Nola!! :-D

My second award comes from my bestest werewolf friend, Cotton!! If you don't know Cotton, well...what rock have you been hiding underneath?! ;-)

The Rules are as follows:
  1. Thank the giver and link back to the blogger who gave it to you.
  2. Share five things about yourself
  3. Answer five questions presented by Cotton
  4. Ask five new questions to your nominated bloggers
  5. Reveal your top five picks. {with less than 200 readers} and let them know by leaving a comment on their blog or a tweet!
  6. Copy and paste the award on your blog
  7. Hope that the people you’ve sent the award to forward it to their five favorite up-and-coming bloggers and keep it going!

5 Things About Moi:
  1. Oh my dog, most of my freckles are disappearing...oh no!! Does that mean I'm disappearing too?!
  2. I'm seriously the most picky eater that has ever lived!
  3. I've just discovered how to chew open tennis balls and shred them too! WooHoo!
  4. I don't like getting icky paws! :-/ Eww!
  5. I'm super barrel chested...not fat!!!
5 Questions By Cotton:
  • Recommend a book that you or your staff have read that you feel my huMum would like.
    • Oh man...ummmmm...ooooo...my Domeek just finished reading Always Looking Up by Michael J. Fox. Now, she's not usually a happy-go-lucky, feel good kind of a person, but this book really helps to put your life in perspective and realize that it's not as bad as it looks, that you can always make things better! :-D We'd definitely recommend it!!
  • Show us a picture of your favorite flower, preferably from your garden but understand if you have to use Google.
    • Muahaha, our garden?! That would follow the presumption that Domeek doesn't have a black thumb!
    The ever beautiful Magnolia!
  • How do you express your love for those close to you.
    • Hehe, I go crazy and whine and growl all around them! I'm a weirdo!
  • Name an all time favorite film of you or your staff.
    • Hm...I just finished watching one of the Harry Potter films and I surprised myself by liking it, usually I get scared pretty easily, but I didn't mind this one (ooo, it's the one where Sirius dies)!
  • Do you find all this just a bit tedious?
    • Hehe, well, if I found it really tedious, I wouldn't have answered the questions! ;-) You might be lucky though, I just finished eating dinner...but I haven't fallen asleep yet!

My Five Questions:
  1. What is the bestest thing that has ever happened to you?
  2. Are you a Valley, Mountain, Country, Urban, or Sea kind of a pup/human?
  3. If you could sit down to dinner with 3 other individuals, who would they be?!
  4. What's your favorite treat?
  5. What's your favorite quote?

The Nominees (Again, go say "Hi" if you don't know them):

Oh my goodness, thank you again Cotton!! :-D

You see, that's 12 pawesome bloggers that you should know! Have a great day everyone!!
